Trouble Shooting...

  • I have cloudy spa water!
Usually caused by poor chemical control, inadequate filtration or water saturation with Total Dissolved Solids (TDS).
Always start by cleaning your filter thoroughly -Dirty Filters will not effectively remove dirt/oil/grease from your spa water.
Adjust chemical levels accordingly and apply Spa Sparkle to coagulate small particles. Clean cartridge or filtration media immediately after treating the spa with spa sparkle and replace old water if TDS levels are high.
(Water should be changed every 3 months as a minimum)

  • My spa water is foaming!
This can be caused by Soap, Shampoo, Oils or detergents being present from lotions/cosmetics or other body preparations. As a temporary fix, use No Foam to suppress foam and try to reduce introductions of lotions/cosmetics in to the Spa.
For a more permanent fix: Dilution is one answer.
Diluting the Spa with fresh water (or completely draining and refilling) will empty the Spa of all of the built up detergents, soaps and shampoos and high TDS levels.
Clean your filter: If you have changed all of your Spa water and you still have foaming, you may have overlooked your filters. The filter could have soap or detergent trapped in it. These may be going back into the spa causing it to foam. Clean your filters with a filter cleaning media for a thorough cleanse. (See pack for Directions on use)
If possible, always shower before using your hot tub for maximum water clarity at all times.

  • Why should I Drain & Refill my Spa?
Regular draining and refilling (every three months) is a normal, essential part of Spa maintenance. Over time, the water absorbs and dissolves minerals, chemicals and other soluble material. This leads to an increase in the TDS (Total Dissolved Solids) level which leads to dull, lifeless looking water and reduces chemical efficiency.

  • How often should I drain my Spa?
The Formula:
Spa Litres / Daily Bathers / 12 =Days between Draining.
For Example:
1200 Ltrs / 2 Daily Bathers / 12 = 50 days between Draining

What you need to do:
-Turn the Spa off completely
-Empty the Spa water with either a submersible pump or unplug your drain valve.
-Check your owners manual for information
-Clean all of the Spas surface with Surface cleaner (wear gloves!)
-Refill the Spa with fresh water
-Add appropriate chemicals as necessary

  • Why should I Clean my Filter?
Most Spa Problems are caused by poor or dirty filters. A filter that is operating properly helps to keep the water clean by capturing the suspended particles.
How to:
Remove the Cartridge Filter every week and rinse with a Garden hose to remove loose debris.
Every 4th week Cleanse your filter in a filter cleaning media, as per instructions on the Sachet/bottle.
PLEASE NOTE: Do not pour filter cleaning solutions in to the Spa.
It is ONLY to be used in a separate container away from the Spa. Rinse the Filter well before returning it to the filter housing within the Spa.

  • I can't get my Chlorine level right!
If your Chlorine level is low...
If there is not enough Chlorine in the dispenser (if you are using one) or you’re not adding granules regularly, you may get a low Chlorine Reading. Make Sure you replenish Chlorine tablets in the dispenser and check for blockages. Also, if your Water balance is out, more Chlorine is consumed at a faster rate. Balance your water within the ideal levels starting with Total Alkalinity followed by Ph, this will allow for more efficient use of the Chlorine.
If your Chlorine levels are high...
Some times your test strips may read that there is no Chlorine when you actually have too much. What happens is the high levels of Chlorine bleach out the indicator pad making it appear there is no Chlorine. Usually high levels of Chlorine will dissipate quickly. However, if the condition persists for more than two days, dilution or draining your Spa is the best way forward.

  • I Have green water!
Usually caused by algae infestation. Shock dose with shock treatments like a One Shock, or in older waters high TDS (Total Dissolved Solids) levels may be reducing Chlorine/Bromine effectiveness in which case change some or all of the existing Spa water.

  • How do I combat Scale formation?
Especially in hard water areas. Warm water in Spas can cause rapid calcium precipitation on Spa surfaces. Use Stain & Scale Control routinely as per bottle instructions.
